Bishop Joseph Strickland to Assume Leadership of the St. Philip Institute of Catechesis and Evangelization as Founder, President, and Chairman of the Board

Effective December 1, 2021, Bishop Joseph E. Strickland of the Diocese of Tyler will assume leadership of the St. Philip Institute of Catechesis and Evangelization, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that he founded in 2017 to teach the Catholic faith, both in the diocese and beyond, with the promulgation of the Constitution on Teaching the Catholic Faith. He will lead the institute now in a more direct way as the President and Chairman of the Board, setting the mission, vision, and culture, working with an expanded Board of Directors.

Since 2018, Stacy A. Trasancos, Ph.D. has served as Executive Director, and she will assume a new role as Director of Faith and Reason to curate a Center for the Theology of Science at the institute. The Center for Theology of Science began with a seed grant awarded by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion (DoSER) program to Holy Apostles College & Seminary in Cromwell, Connecticut and is a partnership between the seminary and the institute.

A new role, Manager of Operations, is assigned to Miss Angelina Estrada, who is promoted from a role she served well the past two years as Manager of Sales and Events. “I am confident this fully bilingual and bright young woman can balance ministry and good stewardship of the diocese’s investment in teaching the Catholic faith,” said Bishop Strickland. Miss Estrada will oversee the operations of all functions of the institute and report directly to President and Founder, Bishop Strickland.

Bishop Strickland will lead the institute along with the two boards he appointed. The Ad Extra Board will play a more active role in governing the institute’s mission and vision. The Ad Intra Board, comprised of priests and laity, will continue to serve an advisory role to help the institute staff determine what will work best in the Diocese of Tyler, a closer snapshot in the parishes at any given moment.
