Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God
The Universal Church celebrates Our Lady under her title of Mother of God on Jan. 1. This is a holy day of obligation for the faithful. Additionally, two opportunities for plenary indulgences are provided to the faithful and pastors may choose to recite these prayers publicly following Holy Mass on the days indicated:

Te Deum. PLENARY INDULGENCE when recited publicly on the last day of the year (Dec. 31). Otherwise a partial indulgence is granted to those who recite theTe Deum in thanksgiving.

Veni, Creator Spiritus (Come, Holy Spirit, Creator Blest). PLENARY INDULGENCE if recited on the first of January (Jan. 1)  or on the feast of the Pentecost. Otherwise, a partial indulgence is granted to those who recite it.

Week of Prayer for Those Affected by Abuse
As part of the Diocese of Tyler’s Safe Environment Program, Bishop Strickland has decreed that all parishes are to offer prayers for those affected by abuse during the week of Jan. 10-16, 2015.  A prayer will be distributed in next week’s email.

Jan. 22 Roe vs. Wade Anniversary
The USCCB Pro-Life Committee has developed the following page as a resource for dioceses around the country to gear up for prayer on Jan. 22. For assistance or more information about efforts in the Diocese of Tyler, contact Fr. Gavin Vaverek or Fr. Nolan Lowry.

Bridging the Gap: Faith Formation for Special Needs
The Office of Faith Formation will host a series of workshops for catechists, parents/caregivers, faith formation leaders and clergy to help to understand the diagnosis of Autism, Down Syndrome, Tourette’s Syndrome, ADD,  ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorders, and others and how to welcome them into relationship with God. The first workshop is Jan. 10. For more information, see this flyer.

Bishop’s New Video Series: On the Road
Checkout Bishop Strickland’s blog for a new video series called “On the Road with Bishop Strickland.” The Bishop will give his thoughts on different topics while traveling across the diocese.

Communications Survey
The Diocese of Tyler is conducting a survey to help determine the best way to communicate with the faithful as we move forward. Your responses will help us plan future communications tools for Bishop Strickland and the diocese. Three Diocesan Schools Seek Principals
Three schools in the Diocese of Tyler are currently looking to fill positions for principals for the 2015-16 academic year.  Job descriptions, requirements and contact information can be found on the Catholic Schools web site.

Daughters of Divine Hope Monthly Clergy Mass
Part of the apostolate of the Daughters of Divine Hope is to offer a Mass once a month for the bishops and priests who have ordination anniversaries and birthdays, for the deacons who have ordination anniversaries and for the deceased clergy. The celebration of the Mass for January will be on Monday, January 12th at 11:30 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 423 S. Broadway, Tyler, TX. This celebration is followed by lunch in the Cathedral Center. The Daughters of Divine Hope invite you to join with us in this celebration and luncheon and to pray with us for our bishops, priests, deacons, and seminarians.
