Bishop Joseph E. Strickland will celebrate Mass Monday, June 5, at 6 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Flint commemorating Msgr. John Flynn’s 65th anniversary of priestly ordination. Msgr. Flynn, a native of Ireland, came to the Diocese of Tyler from the Archdiocese of San Antonio and has served this diocese in a number of parishes as well as on the Tribunal. Now retired from active ministry, he is in residence at St. Mary Magdalene.
Bishop Strickland has released a new pastoral constitution designed to guide the teaching of the Catholic Faith in the Diocese of Tyler for the next 30 years. The constitution was promulgated to the Diocese in the May edition of the Catholic East Texas magazine and can be downloaded here.

Catholic Charities-Diocese of Tyler in conjunction with Catholic Charities-Dallas is launching a long-term recovery assistance effort for victims of the recent tornadoes that swept through East Texas with devastating effect. Catholic Charities will have disaster case managers on site at St. Therese Church in Canton, in the parish hall, Tuesdays-Thursdays, through June 30, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. or by appointment, to discuss assistance options. The Diocesan Office of Youth Evangelization is sponsoring the Diocesan Catholic Youth Conference for young people in grades 9-12 the weekend of July 7-9 at Tyler’s Harvey Hall Convention Center. The weekend’s theme is Elevate 2017: Where Heaven and Earth Collide. Featured guests will include Bishop Strickland, Alex Gotay, Tori Harris, Jason Dueterman, and Deacon Gary Treviño of St. Andrew Church in Lufkin. Musical guest is Agnus Dei. The weekend will offer young people an opportunity to be transformed by the presence of Christ in the sacraments and to deepen their faith through Mass and prayer. Registration for Totus Tuus, the summer youth faith formation program, will be June 18, June 25, and July 1 between the 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Masses. Cost is $20 for 1 child, $35 for 2, and $50 for 3 or more. Payment is due at registration. We also are in need of volunteers to assist the Totus Tuus team. The Faith Formation program here at St Edward is growing. As a result, we will be having CCD classes two nights each week to accommodate the growing numbers of children in our parish. In order to accomplish our need for twice as many classes, we are asking for help from you! We need teachers and classroom helpers. The First Annual St. Edward’s Gala is seeking Silent Auction items. These items will be auctioned off at the Gala planned for October 14, 2017. St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church. Our Catholic Summer University will be June 5-9, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. each day.
We are offering young people of our parish an opportunity for learning outside of the regimentation of our schools with the St. Kateri Academy, inspired by the Montessori model, on Wednesdays from noon-6 p.m. (when Holy Mass begins). We will provide books and other materials, with a focus on the arts (writing, drawing, music, etc.), and offer a place where young people may spend some constructive hours this summer developing talents and skills while learning at their own pace. We need volunteers with Ethics and Integrity certification from noon-6 p.m. on Wednesday. This will require no actual teaching or instruction (unless you want!), but we cannot have activities for minors without proper supervision. Please consider picking one or two Wednesdays this summer and volunteering to be at the parish hall the entire time. In light of our current economic climate, some teens need financial assistance if they are to participate in the Diocesan Catholic Youth Conference July 7-9. Hence, a tremendous experience to grow in faith and community can be missed due to financial issues. You have an opportunity to help provide for these teens. The cost to attend the conference is $65. St. Mary Magdalene Food Pantry serves 60-100 families per week and our costs for obtaining food from the East Texas Food Bank are normally $400-900 weekly. Please help support the Food Pantry and use the envelopes provided in the church with a check made out to St. Mary Magdalene Food Pantry.
St. Charles Borromeo Church. June 18 is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). We will have a Corpus Christi procession at the end of Mass that day, as requested by Bishop Strickland. This is a wonderful way to show our love and devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
The St. Charles Borromeo Food Pantry will be open Thursday, June 8, 9-11:30 a.m. for families needing help with groceries.
Bishop Strickland will be here on Wednesday, June 28, beginning at 6 p.m., for a special Holy Hour with Adoration and Benediction. Special guests will be our diocesan seminarians. After the service has concluded, there will be a meal honoring our seminarians in the Parish Hall. All parishioners are invited to take this opportunity to meet our seminarians and let them know that they are in our prayers. We need volunteers to bring sides and salads only. Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. We have a need for volunteers to visit the sick and bring them Holy Communion in our community. Many people claim the Catholic faith is “unbiblical.” Come to our one-time class to learn how to show how many of our Catholic beliefs are rooted in scripture. Dr. Allison Low will answer the common questions asked by non-Catholics and teach how to evangelize to our fellow Christian brothers and sisters. The class will be Wednesday, June 21, 7 p.m. in the Cathedral Center.

Calling all men, if you are 18 years of age or older, to attend a Men’s Group meeting Wednesday, June 7. The Men’s Group is geared toward strengthening Catholic manhood.
