Unveiling the Immaculate Conception

Come join the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the Diocese of Tyler, and the St. Philip Institute for the grand unveiling of the Cathedral's new painting: The Immaculate Conception, by Robert Puschautz. The unveiling will follow the 8:30am Mass on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Cathedral. Breakfast will be served afterward. See below for a short video of Robert painting this beautiful work of Sacred Art.

Robert Puschautz is the Stabat Mater Art Fellow for the St. Philip Institute of Catechesis and Evangelization. He is working on bringing the beauty of Sacred Art to our Churches here in the Diocese of Tyler. The Immaculate Conception is a grand work of art, depicting the Blessed Virgin Mary protected from sin by our Lord Jesus Christ. Through the power of Christ, she conquers that ancient serpent described in Genesis 3 and Revelation 12. In this painting, we see our lady crushing the head of the serpent, who binds the world.

The St. Philip Institute's new RCIA textbook, The Way of Christ, describes the Immaculate Conception this way:

Mary is the Immaculate Conception because God preserved Mary from having original sin from the very moment of her conception. Then, Mary worked with God's grace to avoid committing any sin during her life. At the annunciation, the angel Gabriel addressed her as, "Hail, full of grace," meaning she had the fullness of God's shared life of grace in her. Mary could not have the fullness of grace in her if she had original sin or committed personal sin.

You can bring the Immaculate Conception home to your family too!

Robert's other art, as well as high quality giclee prints of his paintings, are on display and for sale at the Gold Leaf Gallery, in Tyler.
