Bishop Joseph E. Strickland is calling on the clergy, religious, and lay faithful of the Diocese of Tyler to pray a 54-day Rosary Novena in support of his vision for a teaching diocese. The Novena began on Aug. 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and will continue until Oct. 7, the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary. The 54-Day Rosary Novena consists of praying three novenas of the daily Rosary in petition for the first 27 days, followed immediately by praying three novenas of the daily Rosary in thanksgiving during the second 27 days, for a grand total of six Rosary novenas over the course of 54 days. For more information, see the website here.

In his opening homily, School President Fr. Anthony Stoeppel, STD, stressed to the students that the journey of going to school has one true end.

An information and orientation meeting for people interested in becoming spiritual directors is being offered Saturday, Sept. 16, 9 a.m.-noon at St. Mary Church in Longview.

The meeting is intended to introduce people to the two-year spiritual direction training course offered by the diocese in the hope of attracting more people to that ministry.

Training will begin in January, with sessions held once a month at St. Mary. The course also will include two annual retreats at the Montserrat Jesuit Retreat House in Dallas.
