Bishop Joseph E. Strickland will make himself a target May 16 as he exchanges his cathedra for a dunking booth.
Bishop Strickland will take to the dunking booth as part of the Lovin’ on Kids Benefit Festival at Bergfeld Park in Tyler, May 16, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
The event will benefit The Magdalene Home, a home in Tyler seeking to provide a safe and nurturing environment for unwed mothers. Women in the home are able to continue their education, receive medical care and counseling, attend life skills classes and join in Bible study and prayer groups.
“We are blessed in East Texas with many pro-life neighbors, and Lovin’ on Kids provides us a chance to work together for a good cause,” Bishop Strickland said.
“Our part of the state has few places for pregnant women to find help and shelter,” he said. “The Magdalene Home is a Christian outreach that offers help grounded in the love of God.”
Those attending the event are asked to bring non-perishable foods or household items to help meet the physical needs of the home’s residents.
Bishop Strickland said he hopes many people will accept the opportunity to “dunk a bishop.”
“Hopefully, lots of folks will come to Bergfeld Park on May 16,” he said. “And hopefully there won’t be many with a good pitching arm until later in the day.”
