A three-part series aimed at improving knowledge and understanding of how the Catholic Church worships is set to begin July 11 at the Chancery Office in Tyler.
The theme of the series, “Joyfully Celebrate the Liturgy”, is based on Bishop Joseph E. Strickland’s presentation at the 2014 Diocesan Liturgical Conference.
The sessions, coordinated by the Diocesan Liturgical Commission, will focus on sacred music (July 11), the Roman Missal (August 1), and the liturgical environment (Sept. 12). All sessions run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the cost to attend is $10 for preregistration and $15 at the door.
The five liturgical documents emphasized by Bishop Strickland will serve as the guides for the sessions. Those documents are the General Instruction of the Roman Missal, the instruction Redemptionis Sacramentum, the Apostolic Exhortation Sacramentum Caritatis, the Catechism of the Catholic Church’s sections on Sacred Liturgy, and the Apostolic Constitution Sacrosanctum Concilium.
The workshops are open to all, and are of particular interest to choirs and liturgical musicians, parish liturgical commissions, deacons and catechists.
