Thousands Venerate Saint Maria Goretti at Cathedral

Thousands of Catholic faithful and others came to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Monday to venerate the relics of St. Maria Goretti, the youngest canonized saint in the Catholic Church.  Long lines snaked through the Cathedral and out the side doors as visitors came from across the Diocese and from surrounding states to spend a few moments in prayer before the “little Saint of great mercy.”

At Holy Mass celebrated before one of the largest crowds in the history of the Cathedral, Bishop Joseph Strickland delivered a power homily on the life of St. Maria Goretti, calling her example of grace, mercy and truth a catechism.
