Seminarian softball game set for June 12

The Diocese of Tyler Office of Vocations will host a Seminarian Softball Classic on Sunday, June 12 at 5 p.m. at Faulkner Park in Tyler.

The event will feature the seminarians and priests of the diocese taking on a group of lay men in a friendly game. Food and refreshments will also be available.

“We invite all families in the diocese to a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and rejoice with our seminarians who are laying their lives down for the Church,” said Father Justin Braun, diocesan vocations director. “We will be playing in a softball game with some of the men of the diocese in a friendly, but competitive game and want to give you and your families the chance to meet our seminarians and our newest priest, Father Jonathon Frels.”

According to Father Braun, the event is designed to promote vocations by allowing the faithful to spend quality time with the seminarians and clergy outside of the day-to-day interactions.

“In order to create a culture of vocations to the priestly and religious life in our diocese, it is imperative to let young men encounter the ‘flesh of Christ’ in the priests and seminarians who are part of our diocesan family,” Father Braun said. “This is also a wonderful opportunity for us to say thank you to the generous people of the diocese who help make the education and formation of our seminarians possible. We look forward to seeing you there, and please continue to pray for our seminarians.”

The first Seminarian Softball Classic was played in the summer of 2014.

Admission is free and open to all.
