St. Mary Catholic School Class of 2017 to graduate May 21

LONGVIEW – Bishop Joseph E. Strickland will celebrate the Baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises for the St. Mary Catholic School Class of 2017 Sunday, May 21, at 5:30 p.m. St. Mary Church in Longview.

The nine students comprising the Class of 2017 have received $1,927,672 in scholarship offers, and have been accepted into 29 colleges and universities across the country. Three of the graduates have been accepted into honors programs. Eight of the 9 are graduating under the Distinguished Achievement Degree plan, and have accrued from 3 to 33 college credit hours under the school’s dual credit hours system.

The graduating class is led by McKenzie Fontenot, valedictorian, and Megan Fontenot, salutatorian. Both are NHS members.

McKenzie Elizabeth Fontenot has attended St. Mary’s Catholic School since she was three years old. She plans on attending the University of North Texas and majoring in chemistry. While at St. Mary’s, McKenzie played volleyball, basketball, soccer and ran both track and cross country. She earned a state medal in ready writing at the TAPPS Academic competition. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Senate president and a member of Catholic Athletes for Christ. McKenzie is graduating with 33 college credit hours from Kilgore College and LeTourneau University. McKenzie is a daughter of Dr. Jonathan and Mrs. Mitzi Fontenot.

Megan Renee Fontenot has attended St. Mary’s Catholic School since she was three years old. Megan plans on attending the University of North Texas and majoring in History with a minor in Chemistry. Megan was on the volleyball, basketball, track and cross country teams while she was at St. Mary’s. She received state honors for ready writing at the TAPPS Academic competition. She is a member of the Student Senate, National Honor Society and Catholic Athletes for Christ. Megan will be graduating with 30 college credit hours from Kilgore College and LeTourneau University. Megan is a daughter of Dr. Jonathan and Mrs. Mitzi Fontenot.

Also graduating are Gabriella Aguilar, Eric Eaton, William Harrison, Harrison Howe, Jessica Monge, Josie Soehnge, and Allyson Witt.

A reception will follow the Mass and commencement at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites.
