Que Pasa: News and Notes for July 26

The Alliance of the Holy Family International (AHFI) is sponsoring a visit of the International Centennial Pilgrim Image of Our Lady of Fatima to the Diocese of Tyler in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Our Lady’s apparition to three shepherd children at Fatima, Portugal, in 1917. The visit has the theme, The Urgent Call for Prayer and Reparation: The Appeal of Our Lady of Fatima. The statue, one of six blessed by Pope Francis in January for travel to six continents, will conclude its visit in Sacred Heart Church, Nacogdoches, July 26, 5 p.m., until July 27, 8:30 a.m. The campaign featuring the pilgrim images is based on the appeal communicated via Sister Lucia, the primary visionary of Fatima, which was focused on penance and prayer. Families will be invited to participate in the Fatima devotions of prayer and reparation.

We are already looking toward next year and how we can be more helpful for families that have a child with special needs and wish some help for their child’s faith formation. If you have any suggestions of how we could adapt for your family in a better way or if you would be willing to serve on a committee to enrich and grow our special needs program here at the Cathedral, please contact Peggy Hammett, Director of Faith Formation at 903-592-1617, ext. 119, or phammett@thecathedral.info.

St. Joseph the Worker Church. Our parish is looking for “Workers.” We’re looking to put into practice the well-known adage, “Many hands make light work.” Instead of placing the burden of cleaning the hall on one person we’d like to lighten the heavy load by dividing the work amongst the families of St. Joseph’s. So, we’re asking that each family prayerfully consider volunteering their time, once a month, to clean-up the parish hall after Sunday Socials following the 10 a.m. Mass. If your family would like to help please click this link, which will take you to the sign-up page.

It’s now even easier to connect with and get important updates about the parish. Text BVM to 84576 and follow instructions. For emails, visit the signup page here.

We need help with the ministry to the sick, the homebound, and those in nursing homes. Please call the Church Office or talk with Fr. Gus if you are interested in helping.

Please support our church by purchasing your Brookshire’s, Walmart, and other gift cards in the vestibule of the church.
