Bishop Joseph E. Strickland is encouraging the faithful of the Diocese of Tyler to participate in a 54-Day Rosary Novena beginning Oct. 7.

During the Novena, Bishop Strickland asks those praying to reflect on 1 John 4:16 – “We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us. God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him.” – as we pray, through the Blessed Virgin Mary’s intercession, for our Church, country, and the world.

The 54 Day Novena is a devotion that consists of saying a Rosary for 54 days in a row. A novena means praying nine days in a row, so the 54 Day Novena is, in essence, six novenas: the first three novenas over the first 27 days are said in petition – asking Mary for her prayers for a particular intention. The remaining three novenas said over the last 27 days are in thanksgiving, whether or not you received what you brought to prayer.
