Habemus Papam! We have a pope! It is with great joy that we receive the news that Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has been elected as the Bishop of Rome and the Successor of Peter the Apostle, choosing the name Leo.
Born in Chicago, Pope Leo XIV was ordained a priest for the Augustinian order in 1982. He was elected a provincial for the Augustinian order in 1999 and in September 2015 he was named bishop of Chiclayo in Peru. In 2023, Pope Francis appointment him the Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops.
May the Lord grant Pope Leo XIV the grace and strength to guide the Universal Church with wisdom and courage.
I ask for prayers of all the priests and people in the Diocese of Tyler that the Lord grant our new shepherd, Pope Leo, a spirit of courage and of love.
I also invite you to join me for the celebration of a Mass of Thanksgiving on Friday, May 9 at the 12:05 p.m. Mass at the Chapel of Sts. Peter and Paul.
