Join Catholics from the Diocese of Tyler and fellow Texas Catholics at the Capitol in Austin to promote life, dignity and the common good on April 4, 2017.

Catholics from across the Lone Star State will unite for the Texas Catholic Conference’s 2017 Texas Catholic Faith In Action Advocacy Day.

This bi-annual rally is hosted by the Texas bishops to promote the Church’s values of Life, Justice, Charity, and Religious Freedom to members of the Texas Legislature.

The Bishops and event participants will address a broad range of diverse issues including:

  • Protecting Human Life
  • Children & Families
  • Health & Human Services
  • Justice for Immigrants
  • Protecting the Poor & Vulnerable
  • Criminal Justice

The group from Tyler will be led by Father Nolan Lowry, pastor of St. Edward Parish in Athens and co-director of the sanctity of life program for the Diocese.

The overnight trip from Tyler will follow the agenda below. Those attending are responsible for the cost of overnight lodging and food on the trip.

Monday, April 3

9:00am             Depart Chapel of Sts. Peter & Paul by Charter Bus for Austin

12:00pm          Lunch (en route to Austin)

1:30pm             Arrive at hotel (TBD) and check-in

2:30pm             Depart hotel for Capitol to tour or visit legislators

4:30pm             Walk to St. Mary’s Cathedral

5:00pm             Mass at Cathedral with Bishops of TX

6:00pm             Bus to depart for dinner (TBD)

Tuesday, April 4

7:00am             Mass (at hotel?) celebrated by Fr. Lowry

7:30am             Breakfast (at hotel)

8:30am             Depart hotel for Capitol

9:00am             Arrive at Capitol; legislative visits; proceed to the House Gallery on the third floor to be seated for the opening prayer and recognition.

11:00am           Begin Assembling on the South Grounds for the Rally

IN CASE OF RAIN: We will move and hold a small press conference in the Senate Press Room located on the 2nd floor just in front of the Senate Chamber at room 2E.9.

11:30am           Rally with Bishops begins on South Steps of Capitol

12:15pm           Lunch service begins

2:00pm             Depart by bus from Austin

6:00pm             Arrive at Chapel of Sts. Peter & Paul
