40 Days for Life-Tyler
The Sanctity of Life Office is sponsoring Tyler's first-ever 40 Days for Life campaign.  The mission of the campaign is to bring together the body of Christ in a spirit of unity during a focused 40 day campaign of prayer, fasting, and peaceful activism, with the purpose of repentance, to seek God’s favor to turn hearts and minds from a culture of death to a culture of life, thus bringing an end to abortion.

One of the strengths of 40 Days for Life is its simplicity. The campaign is made up of three key components:
  • Prayer and fasting: inviting people of faith throughout our city and across the country to join together for 40 days of fervent prayer and fasting for an end to abortion
  • Peaceful Vigil: standing for life through a 40-day peaceful public witness outside the local (insert information about abortion facility or Planned Parenthood)
  • Community Outreach: taking a positive, upbeat pro-life message to every corner of our city through media efforts, church and school outreach, petition drives, and public visibility

Sanctity of Life Ministry in the Diocese of Tyler

Since the foundation of the Diocese of Tyler, the Catholic Church has been a leading Pro-Life voice in East Texas.  The bishops, clergy, religious and lay faithful of the Diocese of Tyler have been outstanding promoters of respect for human life from conception to natural death.  Even though East Texas is one of the most Pro-Life areas in the nation, an increasingly secularized worldview and “throw-away culture” threaten to diminish respect for human life at all its stages.   The goals and objectives of the Sanctity of Life Office are the following:

  1. Keep abortionists out of East Texas
    1. Promotion of Gabriel Project for assistance to women in crisis pregnancies
    2. Mobilizing sidewalk counseling and prayerful witnesses near abortion-referring agencies
    3. Collaboration with Evangelical Pro-Life groups that provide assistance but do not prescribe contraception
  2. Teach effectively the principles of the Gospel of Life
    1. Teaching events in conjunction with the St. Philip Institute of Catechesis and Evangelization
    2. Network Catholic healthcare professionals
    3. Provide faith formation programming for parishes/missions of the Diocese
  3. Ensure that vulnerable people are protected against euthanasia
    1. Promote clear guidelines for Catholic medical directives
    2. Direction for Catholics to have these directives on file at parishes and healthcare providers
    3. Encourage parish ministries focused on care for sick and dying
