The Diocese of Tyler celebrated World Marriage Day with a Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Mass on Saturday, February 12th at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Tyler.

All couples in the diocese celebrating 5th, 15th, 25th, 40th, or 50th+ wedding anniversaries in the year 2022 were invited to attend. Over 60 couples traveled to Tyler to attend this celebration.

Of the 100 couples that contacted the diocese for this event, 47 couples celebrate 50+ years of marriage this year. A beautiful witness to the sacrament of marriage throughout the diocese.

This year is a special celebration for Honey and Tony Roy from St. Therese Catholic Church in Canton, TX. The Roys celebrate 70 years of marriage on February 23, 2022. They were the longest married couple in attendance at the anniversary Mass this year.

In his homily, Bishop Strickland thanked the couples present for their witness of married love. He also encouraged couples to consider how they can share their marriage within their own parish communities. Many young couples today need the witness of good faithful marriages in their lives. Bishop Strickland challenged those present to consider how they can accompany engaged and newlywed couples as they step into the sacrament of Holy Matrimony. He encouraged couples to explore the question, “how can my marriage help others?”
