In response to the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Bishop Joseph E. Strickland issued the following statement:

“It is with great joy that we receive the news of the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The overturn of Roe v. Wade is a tremendous step in the direction of upholding the dignity of the human person. We are grateful for all those who worked so diligently to make this a reality.

As Catholics, we believe that life begins at the moment of conception. The dignity of the human person must be recognized from conception to natural death. We must continue our efforts to support every unborn child and mother.

Let us remember to stay vigilant, even in this time of joy. There is still much work to be done in upholding the dignity of the human person. Let us continue to ask the Immaculate Virgin Mary for her intercession for the unborn.”
